Welcome to Strawberry Growers New ZealandStrawberry Growers New Zealand Inc (SGNZ) is an industry body that was formed in 2000 to represent the interests of all New Zealand strawberry growers. Our objective is "growing better strawberries together". |
SGNZ is the strawberry industry peak body and from 1 April 2020 is funded through a commodity levy on commercial strawberry plants. It represents the interests of around 150 strawberry growers in New Zealand. |

Strawberry varietiesNew variety development is a major focus and 55 cultivars have been introduced since 1980. Five new varieties were released from quarantine in April 2019. |

The strawberry industryApproximately 65% of strawberry plantings are in the greater Auckland region, followed by about 15% in Waikato, and the balance in Hawkes Bay, Manawatu/Horowhenua, Northland, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury and Southland. The Auckland region is dominant because of its climate, soil types, labour pool and proximity to key markets |
